The Dutch royals are an important source of inspiration for the collection of Antique Style Web Store. We let ourselves be inspired by the opulent style and favourite colours of the kings and queens of then and now.
History
There are various explanations as to the how the term âblue bloodâ came to be a reference for people of nobility. The colour blue was and is used to indicate a certain status in many cultures. As early as 55 BC, Julius Ceaser saw that the Picts (a tribe in England) smeared their faces and bodies with blue paint. In Japan, the colour blue used to be the colour of nobility and nobility is also indicated with the colour blue in Spain. Napoleon had his entire army outfitted in indigo blue uniforms and finally there was king Louis IX of France who was the first king to wear blue often. The status of the colour blue presumably comes from the fact that it used to cost a lot to paint fabric in a blue colour. It was not until the late middle ages that people could make it easier and more affordable to purchase the colour blue. Before this period, the colour blue was reserved only for the rich. This is how the colour blue became a symbol of status.
Royal Blue
On April 27 2016 we celebrated our third Kingâs Day, after Willem-Alexander was crowned king of the Netherlands on 30 April 2013. This day was particularly memorable because of the stunning, royal blue creation of fashion designer Jan Taminiau that was worn by princess MĂĄxima. The choice of colour was commended by virtually everyone. On 1 May 2013, a curator of the Gemeente Museum in The Hague said to the Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad: âI didnât understand the choice until the royal couple was sitting on the throne. They are a unity. Due to the red cloak, white full dress suit and that much debated gown. Together they create the three colours of the Dutch flag.â Royal blue is a deep blue colour that used to be a purple blue colour. These days, royal blue is a brighter colour that resembles Cobalt blue. It is rumoured that the term royal blue finds its origins in the colour of a dress that was designed for the British queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818) by a textile producer in Rode, Somerset as part of a competition. He invented the colour Royal Blue and got a certificate to sell the colour under this name.
