Origins

The Venetian lamps are made in Italy. This lighting can be seen everywhere in the artistic city of Venice. Venetian glass is famous and based on the original techniques from Ancient Times. At the end of the 13th century, the island Murano was the centre of this industry. Due to fire hazards, glass blowing was prohibited in the centre of Venice. This way, it was possible to keep the designing and the manufacturing process a secret.

Procedure

Experienced glass blowers blow glass with great technical skills. The artist rotates a drop of molten glass at the end of a blow pipe and hollows the glass by blowing into it. By continuously rotating the blowpipe, the glass teardrop is finally blown into the stainless steel fitting. This fitting has been designed with great precision and has been welded to create harmonious shapes. Due to very thorough checks while the glass is blown, any abnormalities in the glass are avoided. Experienced glass blowers create a lamp without using a mould. The shaped glass products have a temperature of around 600 degrees Celsius and it needs to be reduced to room temperature. The slow cooling down process happens in so-called “annealers”.
