The 1920s saw the heyday of the Amsterdam School art movement. Dutch Art Deco had and has an international allure! Think large buildings with playful layouts that didn't look massive, but human. With its expressionist forms, it was the antithesis of the New Objectivity with its lack of ornamentation.

Talented like-minded

Michel de Klerk (1884-1923), along with Van der Mey (1878-1949) and Kramer (1881-1961), sowed the seeds of the Amsterdam School in the office of Eduard Cuypers (1859-1927). Eduard was a full cousin of the architect P.J.H. Cuypers. At the bureau, both arts and crafts and architectural designs were made.

Later, Michel de Klerk and Hildo Krop (1884 - 1970) became associated with the furniture factory 't Woonhuys. They created a furor with their work in "Amsterdam School Style" and became famous furniture designers.
