The pots, vases, bowls, crockery, candlesticks or sculptures are made by professionals. RESPECT for all those clever people who master the art of pottery so well!
Pottery is a collective term for all products made from baked clay. The name is derived from keramos, the Greek word for potter's clay. Ceramics can be divided into earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. These types of ceramics differ in the composition of the raw materials and the temperature at which they are baked.
Earthenware is decorated. This can be done with superimposed forms, the so-called ringeloor technique. Of course, parts can also be carved. Often, the works of art are painted. Sometimes freehand, but also with the help of stencils. Transfers are used when the pottery is produced in series. By finally applying a glaze to the surface, pottery does not allow any moisture to penetrate and acquires an attractive sheen.
Majolica or maiolica is well known: in the original sense, a type of pottery with coloured decorations on an opaque white background of tin-glaze. Famous is the Italian maiolica from the Renaissance. In France majolica developed into faience, in the Netherlands and England into Delft blue.
