Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie in Bavaria (1837 - 1898) was Dutchess in Bavaria and princess in Bavaria from the House Wittelsback and later - due to her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I - emperess of Austria and from the 8 June 1867, also queen of Hungary.
She is commonly known by her nickname Sissi, which she was called by her family. She used this name to sign her letters and it was also used for the title of the movie trilogy based on her life.
The back of the tapestry is lined with cotton and fitted with a rod pocket to help suspend it.
